I am a big weenie about telling people things, so I need some suggestions for this.
A neighbor friend of mine just started a business selling jewelry. She had a party for it at another neighbor's house last night but I couldn't go because I didn't have a sitter for the kids. When I told her I couldn't go, I said that I still wanted to take a look at the catalog and order something. Well, she dropped the catalog off at my house and the jewelry is soo cute, but the average cost of a necklace is like $50, at least   There are a couple for cheaper, but they aren't my taste and I wouldn't want to spend even $20 on a necklace that I don't like. I didn't realize how expensive the jewelry was when I told her I wanted to order something...now I have to give the catalog back to her and somehow tell her that I'm not going to buy anything...how should I tell her? I hate hurting people's feelings or offending people...I'm such a weenie, I hate it sometimes...DH tells me that I need to grow a pair

I personally would tell her I had an unexpected expense come up and unfortunately don't have any extra cash to spare.

I hate those jewelry parties. The jewelry is always way over priced ...and it's just costume jewelry. Not the real stuff. LOL!
I would just tell her you didn't see anything in your budget right now. I stopped going to them now, because I don't wear much jewelry and when I do I where my real gems. I have had a few people ask me to buy still, one being my sister, and I just told them the truth, I don;t wear much and there really wasn't anything I wanted.
MIL had a book that a frined of hers was selling recently. She KNOWS I don't like the stuff, and the seller told her to ask me and SIL too. I told MIL no, and she said she figured so, but wanted ask just in case since the seller told her to. But then she asked me 3 more times and told me SIL was buying. I told her no everytime. I don't know why she kept asking. LOL!

I think those are both excellent suggestions...I hate those parties too....I'm pretty picky about what little bit of jewelry I do wear..and that stuff is sometimes outrageous..lol even the ugly stuff

Thanks guys I appreciate the advice! We do have a lot of extra expenses this year this year so that's not a lie...It's not like we're really struggling for money, but I really can't justify spending $50 on a stinkin necklace!

I agree I would just say that while you thought many items were very nice, they aren't in your budget right at this moment. That really is a hard situation, and I'm often the same way...I hate hurting my friends feelings. :(

Off topic sorta but along the lines of money, Cole, I have been meaning to ask...your husband does cell phone sales, correct? Dh has been thinking about getting into that (as we both hate wal-mart oh-so-much at this point!). Would you mind PMing me any thoughts, suggestions and info you may have about it all, if that is what he does? DH is still going to apply at Costco after he uses his sick time for the baby, since we don't want to leave a month's worth of sick time for the company to keep. But, Costco is notoriously hard to get into. :( Thanks soooo much in advance!!
